The 300 square-meter, 3-level London flagship store for Longchamp is situated on one of Europe’s most established luxury shopping thoroughfares. The project was conceived as a fusion of the embodiment of the French Lonchamp brand and the prestige of New Bond Street in central London. The spatial concept, inspired by the famous folding “pliage” bags, lines the interior walls with folding screens fabricated with materials and colors corresponding different collections of handbags, clothing and luggage. A diagonal pattern reminiscent of the Longchamp “LM” crisscross motif overlays many of the interior surfaces to create a unifying branded spatial lace. Within the 11meter high vertical circulation core a 3-story mural is streaked with a colorful diagonal pattern at a monumental scale. At a much smaller scales the wall and ceiling panels are crafted with the diagonal motif in printed lacquers, inlayed elm, ebony walnut wood marquetry, engraved limestone and tooled leathers.
