The renovation of the two-level, 230 square meter store was predetermined to house accessories, ready-to-wear and shoes is a small, irregularly shaped, low ceiling spaces. To maximize the sense of space and to develop a domestic Parisian apartment-like identity, a concept of “tableaux” or frames was developed. Concentrating all of the product displays on a series of suspended “tableaux” backdrops made from stone, fabrics, tinted metals and Plexiglas liberated the wall, ceiling and floor surfaces to be washed with artificial light in a Turrellian manner to blur the perception of spatial limits and reinforce the visual focus on the products themselves.
