The design strategy for this small town plaza in the Andalucía region of southern Spain was to re-design the cities symbolic central plaza “El Salon” and brand the city with an architectural urban symbol that reflects its historic traditions and simultaneously resolves its extreme climate conditions. The unprecedented Architectural/Landscape solution is an expansive undulating vegetal blanket of fuchsia colored bougainvillea plants hover above the plaza on Teflon coated tension cables to filter the harsh sunlight of the hottest region in central Europe and to define the various spaces and daily activities that occur below.
