Within JK Iguatemi in Sao Paulo, Brazil CARBONDALE has designed a 100 square meter lobby waiting area with two custom designed “Hovercraft” seating islands.
The lobby design is a singular orthogonal volume capped in a unified uninterrupted wood louvered ceiling that evenly filters and diffuses the light throughout as it visually warms the space. Centered in the space and floating above the polished white terrazzo flooring are the seating islands. Their invisible polished stainless steel core serves to seemingly defy gravity as the large rectangular planes wrapped in light-cream leather and covered in an inviting mound of pillows magically levitate.
